The Importance of Vaccinations

To be honest with you folks, I'm not gonna beat around the bush here. Your rabbits need protection in the form of vaccinations against Myxomatosis and VHD (Viral Haemorrhagic Disease). These vaccinations require annual boosters, and in some circumstances it may be necessary to have the Myxomatosis vaccine done on a six monthly basis - you should discuss this requirement with your vet who will be able to advise you if you need the myxomatosis vaccination done annually or every six months depending on the risk in your area.

In order for me to accommodate your rabbits they must be vaccinated against both Myxomatosis and VHD. I need to see the vaccination certificate before I can admit your rabbits.

I cannot accept rabbits into my accommodation that have been vaccinated less than a week (7 days) before coming in. Please also note that a period of 2 weeks between each vaccination is needed (both vaccinations cannot be done on the same day) as this could affect whether or not your rabbits can come to stay.

In my opinion vaccination is so vital that I will not accept rabbits into my care who are not fully vaccinated. This is for the safety of all the rabbits here - my own rabbits, foster rabbits (from Green Fields Rescue), your rabbits and the other rabbits who are here on their holidays.

I recently caught a wild rabbit who was running down the middle of a 60mph road because it couldn't see where it was going due to the fact that it had advanced myxomatosis. Having witnessed this devastating disease first hand I can't imagine what it must be like to see your own pet rabbit go through it and know you could have increased it's chances of living and being nursed back to health by having it vaccinated. (I took the wild bunny to the vets and had it put to sleep as it was the kindest thing to do, and it was surely going to be hit by a car otherwise).
