VACCINATIONS We can only offer boarding to rabbits that are fully vaccinated. Vaccination MUST be carried out AT LEAST two weeks before your rabbits are due to stay with us. Vaccinations do not provide immediate immunity and therefore must be given a period to establish themselves in the rabbit. If your rabbits are due both vaccines you will need to allow a month prior to boarding as a period of 2 weeks is required between vaccinations. Please note it is a myth that house rabbits do not require vaccination. Myxomatosis is most commonly spread by biting insects and it is impossible to stop these from entering your home. VHD (Viral Haemorrhagic Disease) is easily spread for example by hay that has been in contact with an infected wild rabbit, or perhaps by yourself / other pets who have been out in the woods for a walk and stepped on infected wild rabbit droppings or of course from contact by someone who has an infected rabbit themselves without knowing. The Myxomatosis vaccination must be given 6 monthly. Annual boosters are no longer thought to be effective due to the prevalence of the disease. The Myxomatosis vaccine is live and onset of immunity following vaccination is 2 weeks. The VHD vaccination must be given annually. At the moment there are 2 commonly used vaccines available; Lapinject and Cylap. Lapinject is my personal preferred choice of vaccine and onset of immunity following vaccination is 6 days. In my opinion Cylap has been seen to cause more side effects in rabbits, and onset of immunity is actually 21 days (for this reason if your vet uses Cylap rather than Lapinject I would strongly advise VHD Vaccination being done 3 weeks before boarding and if both Myxomatosis and VHD vaccines are due at the same time it would be advisable to have Myxomatosis done first and then VHD). You may be able to request your vet uses one vaccine over another but they may be restricted to one particular brand for various reasons. This is not a problem, both types of VHD vaccine offer protection from the disease and at the end of the day that's the most important thing. If you are in any doubt about vaccinations please email or telephone me to discuss. Click here for some more information on both diseases WHAT TO BRING Above is a list of what's included in the boarding price. Please bring the rabbit's 'dry' food with you, along with litter trays (if they have them), litter (we won't use sawdust as it has adverse effects on small animal's respiratory systems), toys and any blankets / carpet tiles and so on that smell of your rabbits to make them feel at home. The kennels are large enough to accommodate a large amount of 'stuff'. PLEASE RESPECT OUR NEIGHBOURS Our boarding facility is run from our home so please be respectful of our neighbours when parking at the property and do not block anyone's driveway (apart from ours). Being prompt for drop off and pick up times is much appreciated. We are busy people and our free time is very precious so it is very much appreciated that you stick to agreed timings. Obviously sometimes things go wrong and if you are running late for any reason please telephone us to let us know (07834 915980). NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSITS We may find it necessary to charge a deposit when you make your booking. We will let you know if this applies at the time of booking. CANCELLATION FEES We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee if you cancel boarding at short notice. If we are able to fill the space this will not be necessary but short notice may result in a loss of earnings for us which is unacceptable. On rare occassions it may be necessary for us to cancel your booking for reasons beyond our control. Obviously this is not something we wish to do but if we do need to do this we will try and give as much notice as possible. Please note there will be no reimbursement of any kind for monies lost as a result and we are not responsible for alternative boarding provisions. VETERINARY FEES & REIMBURSEMENT FOR PETROL Any Veterinary fees incurred for your rabbits whilst they are in our care are your (the owner's) responsibility. You will either be required to pay the Vet directly or reimburse The Little Warrens accordingly. Due to the rising costs of fuel we now regrettably need to charge a nominal fee for the petrol used when making journeys to and from the Vets. If you would like details of the current cost per mile please ask. |
